The Cyprus Digital Nomad Visa is a temporary residence permit for non-EU remote workers earning at least €3,500 net a month, administered by the Civil Registry and Migration Department — and it is legally distinct from Cyprus’s investment-based permanent residency route.
What exactly is the Cyprus Digital Nomad Visa?
It’s a temporary residence permit for remote workers, not a Cyprus work permit and not a path to local employment.
It’s administered by the Civil Registry and Migration Department, under the Deputy Ministry of Migration and International Protection. It lets you live in Cyprus while continuing to work for employers or clients based outside the country.
Who can actually apply?
Only third-country nationals — meaning non-EU and non-EEA citizens.
- You must be a remote employee of a company registered outside Cyprus, or
- Self-employed or freelance, serving clients exclusively outside Cyprus — no local Cypriot clients or employers permitted.

How much do you need to earn to qualify?
At least €3,500 net per month, with extra required for each family member joining you.

What documents will they actually ask for?
A fairly standard immigration file, but it must be complete before you submit it.
This list reflects the requirements most commonly described by Cyprus immigration advisors — always confirm the current document checklist with your lawyer before you submit, since immigration paperwork is one of the fastest-moving details in any country’s rules.
- Valid passport
- Employment contract, or freelance and service agreements
- Salary slips and roughly six months of bank statements
- Health insurance, typically with a minimum €30,000 of cover
- A clean criminal record certificate
- Proof of accommodation in Cyprus
- The completed MVIS4 application form, a CV, and a letter of intent
How long does the permit last, and does it lead to citizenship?
One year initially, renewable up to three years total — and it does not count toward Cypriot citizenship by naturalisation.
That last point catches people out. Time spent on this visa is not credited toward the residency period required for naturalisation, even though staying 183 days a year (and not being tax-resident elsewhere) can make you a Cyprus tax resident — a distinct and separate benefit from immigration status.
Can your family come with you?
Yes — your spouse or civil partner and minor children can join you on permits matching your own duration, but they can’t work in Cyprus.
That restriction matters for planning purposes. If your partner also needs to earn income while you’re there, this particular visa route isn’t built for that — it’s worth having a direct conversation with an immigration lawyer about your specific household situation.
Is there a cap on how many visas are issued?
Yes, and it has changed recently — the cap rose from 500 to 1,000 permits a year at the end of October 2025.
Officials have suggested the cap could be removed entirely in 2026 if demand stays high. This is genuinely the fastest-moving detail in the whole scheme, and we tell every client the same thing: confirm the live quota status the week you actually apply, not the month before. Numbers you read online, including in this article, can be out of date by the time you act on them.
